Project Sumatra

Kalaweit Sumatra currently has 1 site dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, reintroduction and welfare of confiscated gibbons, specifically the species native to Sumatra: the Agile gibbon (Hylobates agilis unko) and the siamang (Symphalangus syndactylus).

The Kalaweit Programme is located on an island of 1000 hectares called Marak off the west coast of Sumatra. The site is 30 km from the town of Padang (Capital of West Sumatra province).
